In contrast to terrestrial farmed animals, feed management in Aquaculture operations is a herculean task. In case of terrestrial farm animals, feed can be managed on a visual experience basis, Whereas in the case of Aquaculture operations, multiple complexities are involved, you can’t have a glimpse of what is happening inside the water, you can’t assess the daily feed utilisation patrons, daily growth rate etc. Commercial  shrimp feeds are usually fed by farmers at a fixed daily rate based on shrimp body weight and an estimate of the total shrimp biomass present in the pond or tank, This practice is inherently associated with consequential risk of over- or under-feeding, which further leads to environmental pollution (due to over-feeding), and suboptimal FCR and growth. ,Under practical farming conditions, the feeding response, feed intake (expressed as percent shrimp body weight), feed utilization efficiency and growth of shrimp vary with numerous biological, environmental and human factors,  such as 
1. Shrimp body weight 
2. Water temperature 
3. Natural food availability
4. Compound feed formulation and nutrient density 
5. Shrimp feed application method
6.Shrimp moult cycle, lunar cycle phase and feeding behaviour: Feed intake and growth are dependent upon the physiological state and condition of the shrimp, with feed intake usually decreasing immediately prior to and during the moulting cycle and natural feeding activity being highest during non-daylight hours.
7.Shrimp health and well-being, including ecosystem health: feed intake and growth are generally lowest for stressed and diseased shrimp, including those in polluted and environmentally stressed pond ecosystem.

As any one of above factors alters, during shrimp farming leads to reduce feed intake, where there is a necessary for the farmer to add Feed attractant to commercial feed to over come shrimp feed management issues.
