YOUR CHILD’S MEDICINE AT A GLANCE   Megapen Kid Tablet contains two active antibiotics that are effective against a multitude of bacterial infections, including those of the ears, nose, sinus, tonsils, throat, lungs, heart, skin, and bones. It can also effectively treat infections caused by resistant bacteria.

Megapen Kid Tablet works best on an empty stomach, so try to give it to your child 30 minutes to 1 hour before they eat. However, give it with food if it upsets your child’s stomach. It is generally given three times a day. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor as these depend on the severity of the infection, its type, and your child’s body weight and age. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, repeat the dose when your child feels better. However, do not double the dose if it is the time for the next dose.

Megapen Kid Tablet can cause some minor and temporary side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and mild skin rash. These side effects almost always go away on their own. But, in case these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without a delay.

Tell your child’s doctor if your child has had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, and kidney malfunction. Knowledge of your child’s medical history will help the dose make dose alterations and plan your child’s overall treatment. USES OF MEGAPEN KID TABLET IN CHILDREN   • Treatment of Bacterial infections BENEFITS OF MEGAPEN KID TABLET FOR YOUR CHILD   In Treatment of Bacterial infections Megapen Kid Tablet is a medicine given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections, especially the ones which are suspected to be caused due to resistant bacteria. These infections may include otitis media (ear infection), rhinosinusitis (sinus infection), tonsillitis (infection of tonsils), pneumonia (lung infection), cellulitis (skin infection), endocarditis (infection of the heart), and osteomyelitis (bone infection).

Usually, children start to feel better within 2-3 days of regular dosing. Make sure to finish the recommended course of the medicine as stopping the medicine abruptly may lead to ineffective treatment or may even worsen your child’s condition. SIDE EFFECTS OF MEGAPEN KID TABLET IN CHILDREN   Megapen Kid Tablet does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Megapen Kid Tablet is to be taken empty stomach. HOW MEGAPEN TABLET WORKS   Megapen Kid Tablet contains two active ingredients: Ampicillin and Cloxacillin. Ampicillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. At the same time, cloxacillin works toward increasing the efficiency of this medicine and helps in treating the infections caused by resistant bacteria. Together, these two medicines not only kill the infection-causing bacteria but also arrest the spread of the infection. SAFETY ADVICE   Kidney CAUTION Megapen Kid Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Megapen Kid Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is advised while taking this medicine. Liver SAFE IF PRESCRIBED Megapen Kid Tablet is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of Megapen Kid Tablet is recommended. WHAT IF I FORGET TO GIVE MEGAPEN KID TABLET TO MY CHILD?   Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose to catch up and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.
