INTRODUCTION

Platinex 50mg Infusion is used in the treatment of ovarian, cervical and testicular cancer. It shows its working by stopping or slowing down the growth of cancer cells.

Platinex 50mg Infusion is given as an injection into veins by a qualified medical professional. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Injection site reaction (pain, swelling, redness), nausea, and vomiting are some common side effects of this medicine. Hearing problems or ear damage is a serious side effect of this medicine, hence your doctor might get a hearing test both before and during treatment with this medicine. It may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and kidney function.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor if you have or had kidney disease as the medicine affects the functioning of the kidney.  Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It may cause infertility in men, hence they should seek medical advice about sperm freezing before beginning treatment.

It usually spreads to the pelvis and stomach. Platinex 50mg Infusion kills or stops the growth of cancer cells and also prevents the multiplication of cancer cells. It is an effective medicine but has some side effects that may be bothersome. So, you should discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Breast feeding

Platinex 50mg Infusion is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving

Platinex 50mg Infusion may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Platinex 50mg Infusion may cause side effects such as feeling sleepy and/or vomiting which could affect your ability to drive.

Kidney

CAUTION

Platinex 50mg Infusion should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Platinex 50mg Infusion may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Platinex 50mg Infusion is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Liver

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Platinex 50mg Infusion is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Platinex 50mg Infusion may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
