The Johara® Complete care formula was tested in Indiana University –School of Dentistry , Oral Health Research Institute , USA for its safety and effect on the teeth enamel. Relative dentin abrasivity (RDA) is a method for measuring the abrasive effect that the components of the toothpaste have on the tooth, particularly on enamel and dentin (Tooth Cutting Ability). The methodology uses test standards as adopted by American Dental Association (ADA) namely, reference toothbrush, 150g pressure, 1500 strokes and 4-to-1 water-toothpaste slurry. According to the ISO standard, every toothpaste with an RDA under 250 is safe for a lifetime of use. Johara® Complete Care toothpaste has an RDA of 66.98 ± 1.51 and hence considered to be safe and very gentle on the enamel. One of the greatest hazards of using fluorides in Toothpastes has been emphasized by the USFDA. In the year 1997, it was mandatory for toothpaste manufacturers to add a “poison warning” if the formulation contained Fluoride. Even a dose as low as 0.2 to 0.3 mg/kg was found to lead to serious toxic consequences. A few serious concerns have been the following – Impaired Glucose Metabolism – known to impact blood glucose and insulin levels. Implicated in rising prevalence of diabetes in children.
