How To Calculate Feed Pressure In Ro System

Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are an effective water filtration method that is commonly used in the home. But what does it mean when you hear about “feed pressure” in an RO system? In this blog post, we’ll explain what feed pressure is and how to calculate it for your own reverse osmosis system. 

What Is Feed Pressure? 

Feed pressure is the pressure of the water going into your reverse osmosis system before it undergoes any filtration or purification processes. This pressure comes from your main water supply line, and it will be higher than the atmospheric pressure created by the surrounding environment. The higher this feed pressure is, the more effective your reverse osmosis will be at filtering out impurities.

How To Calculate Feed Pressure?

In order to calculate feed pressure, you’ll need a few pieces of equipment. First, you’ll need a manometer or other device capable of measuring pressure. You'll also need a flow meter capable of measuring the flow rate of water entering your reverse osmosis system. Once you have these two pieces of equipment, start by turning on the main water supply line and setting up your manometer according to its instructions. 

Then turn on the RO system and measure the flow rate with your flow meter. To calculate feed pressure, simply multiply the flow rate by 2.31 (the conversion factor for PSI). This will give you an approximate measurement for feed pressure in pounds per square inch (PSI).

It's important to note that this calculation only works if there are no obstructions or other blockages in your pipes that could reduce water flow or cause excessive backpressure. 

If this is not taken into account, then the calculated value may not accurately reflect the true feed pressure of your RO system.
