Metering Pump Vs Diaphragm Pump: How They Work 

A metering pump is a type of positive displacement pump that uses an adjustable stroke length in order to precisely control the flow rate of liquid. 

It works by increasing or decreasing the number of times it cycles per minute in order to control the output flow rate. 

A diaphragm pump works by using mechanical force to move a flexible diaphragm against an opening in order to generate suction. 

This suction then pulls liquid into the chamber where it is then pushed out through an outlet valve.

Advantages & Disadvantages 

Metering pumps have several advantages over diaphragm pumps, including being able to handle higher pressure without sacrificing accuracy, having fewer moving parts which makes them easier to maintain and service, and being able to run for longer periods without needing repairs or maintenance. 

However, they are not well-suited for applications that require large volumes of liquid or require high levels of suction power. 

On the other hand, diaphragm pumps are great for applications that require large volumes or high suction power but don’t need precise control over output flow rates as they tend to be less accurate than metering pumps. 

When Should You Use Each One? 

Metering pumps should be used whenever precise control over output flow rates is needed. It's also important to consider what type of liquid will be pumped; if it's a highly viscous liquid (like honey), then a metering pump would be ideal because its adjustable stroke length can more easily handle thick liquids than a diaphragm pump can. 

Diaphragm pumps should be used whenever high levels of suction power are needed or when pumping large volumes of liquid; however accuracy may suffer in these cases so keep this in mind when making your decision.
