We at Batik Works, department of Sri Aurobindo Ashram are a boutique and enjoy bringing you both Batik and Tie & Dye work which are unique designs on Mulmul cotton and Silk fabrics as sarees, blouse piece, dress piece, Dupatta, Scarves, Stoles, wall piece, bags, Table cloth, mats and Napkins, Lamp shades, curtains, bedspreads, etc. 
Every piece is different in its design and colours and are inspired by our highest consciousness of each person in our team. 

                                       Batik in Ashram

In 1927 Batik was brought by Rabindranath Tagore to Shantiniketan from Indonesia and Sanjivan Biswas a student of Nandalal Bose (Shantiniketan) brought it to Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry. Now the Batik section is an active creative section of Sri Aurobindo Ashram’s Production unit.

                                                                       Tie & Dyeing

Tie and Dye is simply a method of tying or stitching fabric together to prevent absorption of the dye.
Then after removing the thread used on the design comes on the exposed parts. After the discovery of synthetic dyes the height of its popularity has been increased all over the world.
                                                                         What is Batik?

Batik is an Indonesian word came from the work “Titik” which means one drop. i.e. a drop of hot melted wax used on the design to resist the dye.

From 1890-1910 people of Gujarat used Cow dung to resist dye in the art of Batik.
