EDMOND DE ROTHSCHILD
Everything begins with a name.
The name Rothschild belongs to Mayer Amschel Rothschild, who, as early as 1806, helped pioneer the modern forms of wealth management. Staying true to the Rothschild of the origins means embracing his precepts for living. He was both inventive and austere, surrounded by wealth yet impeccably honest. Immersed in princely splendor, he nevertheless returned each night to the Frankfurt ghetto. He nurtured his community and he never abandoned it. Two centuries and a few years later, we are still guided by his conviction that there is rarely infertile ground when it comes to wealth. Every life, every dream, can serve as a rare earth in which wealth can take root, flourish, and endure, without ever betraying one’s core principles.
When a first name precedes such a surname, it must embody strength.
If creativity had a first name, it would be Edmond. Finance is an ancient practice that has taken many forms, but in this family, whenever it was embodied by an Edmond or carried forward by those who followed them and upheld their values, it has created a different relationship to money. With seemingly limitless interests, ranging from healthcare to scientific research, from social housing to the arts, and from social assistance to education, finance at Edmond de Rothschild has always resonated with this spirit. It has supported projects, aligned itself with the most inventive, creative, and virtuous aspects of its era. In becoming thoughtful and compassionate, finance has proven that it can make meaningful contributions and move the world forward.

An approach.
Since then, we have been committed to this culture of innovation and purpose, and our creativity strives to be as closely aligned as possible with a certain vision of the world. Beyond the merely technical decisions, finance sets the world into motion in a way that becomes meaningful when its outcomes are beneficial. When, in 1960, Edmond de Rothschild became a pioneer of the financial practice of private equity to promote new sectors of the competitive economy, he remained true to the original Rothschild values.
The list of our initiatives is long: from private equity to the recent creation of infrastructure debt, from impact finance to high-yield bonds, currency overlay management, and alternative multi-management. We have been and will continue to be part of many innovations.

A dedication to philanthropy.
Few have given so much. Similarly to America’s major philanthropists, Europe’s own Edmond de Rothschild knew how to invest and place philanthropy at the service of people and the world.
Edmond de Rothschild, known to many as “The Benefactor,” was a visionary who was passionate about arts and sciences and committed to knowledge, education, and innovative social change.
The many examples of his philanthropic engagement include the donation to the Louvre Museum of the Boscoreale treasure and more than 90,000 drawings from masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt, which led to the creation of the Louvre’s Graphic Arts Department. He was behind the creation of the Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology in 1927, which revolutionized scientific research through multidisciplinary collaboration and laid the groundwork for the CNRS, France’s national research organization. He supported many social initiatives, among which with his wife, he founded the Toit Familial, a center that provided shelter for young single women migrating to the city, among other services.
His legacy has been carried forward by the family, who, while adapting to the evolving needs of each generation, has preserved the philanthropic tradition that Edmond established. This included the founding of the Adolphe de Rothschild Foundation Hospital (HFAR) in Paris, and supporting the children’s protection association OPEJ, which was originally created to assist children of deportation victims.
Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild have honored and modernized this legacy, launching innovative programs, such as the Ariane de Rothschild Fellowship, to build cultural bridges between different communities who are, notably—though not exclusively—Jewish and Muslim.
Today, Ariane de Rothschild, leads the Edmond de Rothschild Family Philanthropy, which includes grant-making foundations around the world that share a belief in the transformative power of change-makers. Together, they reflect the family’s commitment to the values Edmond established early on: audacity, entrepreneurial spirit, and care for all.

Progress.
Across three centuries and seven generations, our story has been one of progress through participation in the financing of infrastructure. From the first daring venture of the Channel Tunnel to soil decontamination solutions, we have finance growth in Africa and implemented large-scale projects. Each day reaffirms to us that progress is a cause well worth dedicating one’s lifetime to.

Family-owned.
Many use this word and give it meaning, but our ownership is truly and entirely family-based, something that has become exceedingly rare. When the family of Benjamin de Rothschild delisted Edmond de Rothschild (Suisse) SA in 2019, it granted us the complete independence that is essential to the implementation of our vision. Our House is committed to putting its name at the service of each individual, fully aware of the responsibility that comes with it.

Our path.
Our past is rich, but it is not a trophy. It is not the sum of what came before us, rather the path we have taken and which has made us who we are today.
This journey sheds light on the road we now travel. We owe everything to it. We reinvent ourselves, create, innovate, and challenge conventional wisdom each and every day because this, too, is part of walking that path and staying true to the original.
Private banking.
Edmond de Rothschild is driven by the belief that money becomes meaningful when we understand it in terms of people's lives. Our investments, which are anchored in the real economy, earn a financial, social, and personal return. At Edmond de Rothschild, wealth investment is imbued with a sense of purpose.
