DIY Amla Oil for Healthy Hair
Amla (Indian gooseberry) has been an important part of Ayurvedic hair care for centuries. It is naturally rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, which help nourish the scalp, strengthen hair roots, and reduce premature greying.
Although many amla-based hair oils are available in the market, some of them may contain chemicals, preservatives, and artificial fragrances that are not ideal for long-term hair health. Preparing DIY amla oil at home is a simple way to ensure that your hair receives pure, natural nourishment without harmful additives.
Homemade amla oil is easy to prepare and requires only a few natural ingredients that are commonly available in most kitchens.

-
Strengthen hair roots
-
Promote natural hair growth
-
Add shine and smoothness
-
Reduce dandruff and dryness
-
Nourish the scalp naturally

Method to Prepare Amla Oil
Step 1:
If using fresh amlas, wash and slice them. Dry them in sunlight for about a week until they become completely dry. You can also use a dehydrator and grind them into a fine powder.
Step 2:
Pour the carrier oil into a pan and heat it gently on a low flame. Avoid overheating the oil or letting it smoke.
Step 3:
Add the dried amla powder to the warm oil and stir well. Let the mixture simmer for around 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 4:
After heating, strain the oil using a cheesecloth or fine strainer. Allow the oil to cool completely.
Step 5:
Store the oil in a dark glass bottle and keep it in a cool, dry place. You can also add a few drops of rosemary essential oil for additional scalp nourishment.
How to Use DIY Amla Oil
For best results, use the oil within three months to maintain its potency.
-
Slightly warm the oil before application.
-
Massage it gently into the scalp and hair roots.
-
Leave it on for about 30 minutes.
-
Wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
Using this oil 2–3 times a week can help improve hair strength, shine, and overall scalp health.
⚠️NOTE: Avoid leaving the oil overnight, as its thick consistency may attract dust and clog the scalp pores, which can interfere with healthy hair growth.
